The Bible doesn’t say to have “accountability partners” but it does say we are to make a habit of meeting together daily, living lives together, encouraging, rebuking, admonishing, correcting, helping, supporting, providing, sharpening, spurring on, praying for and strengthening one another.
The person who seeks to live out this biblical calling of
confronting a person’s sin while also investing in a committed relationship
with the person:
- …is on the outside looking in to your life, and through their outsiders point of view they can point out things you may not be able to see
- …is privy to intimate details of your life and, therefore, also has an insider’s perspective which enables them to recognize areas of struggle or sin
- …invests time with you on a regular basis in all kinds of various settings and therefore sees how your private life correlates with your public life which enables them to recognize and point out potential trends
